Bar Steel Fatigue Database
The Bar and Rod Market Development Group (BRMDG) of AISI has recently expanded its online Bar Steel Fatigue Database with 21 new grade/process iterations, making fatigue data available on a total of 42 steel grade/process combinations. This database provides engineers with accurate and detailed component fatigue life predictions that allow them to optimize critical powertrain and chassis component designs. The database contains steel bar mechanical property and fatigue information for optimizing component part design, reducing component design cycle time and selecting the best steel grade and process for the part, in less time and at reduced costs.
Fatigue Performance Evaluation of Forged Versus Competing Manufacturing Process Technologies
Cast iron, cast aluminum, forged steel and powder metallurgy are material and manufacturing techniques from which auto engineers must choose the most appropriate for any given application. A study by the University of Toledo, prepared for the AISI Bar Applications Group, examines these manufacturing technologies to compare fatigue performance, to develop a general durability assessment methodology, and to develop a method for efficient and reliable optimization of such components.
