AUTO/STEEL PARTNERSHIP CHAIR HONORED WITH SPECIAL RECOGNITION
AWARD
DETROIT, June 21, 2010 – The Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) announced today
that John Bohr, chair of the Auto/Steel Partnership’s (A/SP)
Advanced High-Strength Steel Joining Team, is the recipient of the
United States Council for Automotive Research LLC (USCAR) Special
Recognition Award. Bohr was presented with the award by USCAR Executive,
Director Don Walkowicz, during the annual USCAR Recognition
event.
“Through John’s long-term leadership, A/SP’s
Advanced High-Strength Steel Joining Team has developed technology
plans, implemented research programs and integrated those findings into
production,” Ronald Krupitzer, vice president of automotive
applications for SMDI, said. “His unprecedented support of
collaborative research and development continues to provide significant
value towards advancing applications of steel in the automotive
industry.”
“Receiving the Special Recognition Award goes way beyond
individual recognition,” Bohr said. “It acknowledges the
collaborative efforts of automotive and steel experts and the progress
both industries are making together towards safer, lighter and greener
cars.”
Founded in 1992, USCAR is the collaborative automotive
technology organization for Chrysler Group LLC, Ford Motor Company
and General Motors Company. The goal of USCAR is to further strengthen
the technology base of the domestic auto industry through cooperative
research and development.
The Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI), a
business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), grows and
maintains the use of steel through strategies that promote
cost-effective solutions in the automotive, construction and container
markets, as well as for new-growth opportunities in non-traditional
steel markets. The Automotive Applications Council is a part of the SMDI
