AHSS Enabling Technologies

ADVANCED HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL GUIDELINES - The International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) has developed a first version of information on forming and joining of Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS). AHSS Guidelines documents valuable information specific to automotive body-in-white applications of this steel.

ADVANCED HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL REPAIRABILITY STUDY - PHASE I - A study highlighting the development of appropriate repair procedures for 600 MPa tensile strength (TS) dual-phase steel and a 1300 MPa TS Martensitic steel, after exposure to typical repair arc welding and flame straightening temperature cycles. Phase I outlined recommended practices for repairing components made of these advanced high-strength materials.

ADVANCED HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL REPAIRABILITY STUDY - PHASE II  - A study illustrating the repair procedures for advanced high-strength steels, such as DP 780, TRIP 600, and TRIP 780. Phase II addresses the effect of MIG repair welding on the mechanical properties of DP and TRIP steels to validate welding as a means to repair crash damage that cannot be repaired by conventional flame straightening.

CHARACTERIZATION OF FATIGUE AND CRASH PERFORMANCE OF NEW GENERATION HIGH- STRENGTH STEELS - This report highlights fatigue and high-strain rate data for a new generation of high-strength sheet steels, including Dual-Phase (DP) steels, Transformation Induced Plasticity (TRIP) steels, Bake Hardenable (BH) steels and conventional High-Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steels.

FORMABILITY CHARACTERIZATION OF A NEW GENERATION OF HIGH-STRENGTH STEELS - A comprehensive report of different steel grade tests that characterized intrinsic mechanical behavior, splitting limits, and springback behavior for several lots of mild, conventional High-Strength Steels (HSS), Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) and Ultra High-Strength Steels (UHSS) under different forming conditions.

LIGHTWEIGHT FRONT-END STRUCTURE PHASE I: FINAL REPORT - A purely analytical, parametric study of automotive front end design sensitivities, sponsored and overseen by the Auto/Steel Partnership (A/SP). The project, utilizing math data from the original UltraLight Steel Auto Body (ULSAB) initiative, was organized into a series of independent, and selectively discrete activities, which together formed the basis of an integrated strategy for further development of a lightweight front end structure utilizing advanced high strength steels (AHSS). The various methodologies employed included: Design of Experiments (DoE), Response Surface Modeling (RSM) and Computer Aided Optimization (CAO).

The Final Report provides detailed information about the various elements of the Lightweight Front End Structure project.
