Steel Joist Institute Names New Officers

FLORENCE, S.C., January 30, 2014 – The Steel Joist Institute recently announced its new officers, including 2014 president Paul O’Connor of Gooder-Henrichsen. The officers are selected through a Nominating Committee, and voted on by the entire Board of Directors. Each officer will serve a two-year term.

O’Conner received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. He has been with Gooder-Henrichsen Co. since 2000 and currently serves as its president.

Mike Heine, vice president and general manager of Vulcraft Div. Nucor Corp., will serve as SJI’s first vice president. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University. Kim James, vice president and general manager of Valley Joist Inc., was elected SJI’s second vice president. She is a graduate of Lycoming College in Pennsylvania. Ken Charles, SJI’s managing director, will also serve as the board secretary and treasurer.

Besides setting standards for the steel joist industry, the Steel Joist Institute works closely with major building code bodies throughout the country helping to develop code regulations regarding steel joists and Joist Girders. The Institute also invests thousands of dollars in research related to steel joists and Joist Girders and offers a complete library of publications and other training and research aids.
