Steel Joist Institute Updates Technical Digest No. 5

FLORENCE, S.C., March 3, 2015 - The Steel Joist Institute (SJI) has updated Technical Digest No. 5, “Vibration of Steel Joist – Concrete Slab Floors." The publication is a 58-page guide that provides information on:

  • Design considerations for floor vibrations.
  • Parameters that may reduce the chance of floor vibration.
  • Vibration software and finite element analysis.
  • Additional situations surrounding the response of steel joist-supported, concrete slab framing systems subjected to human movement.

The updated content was developed by Dr. Thomas M. Murray and Dr. Brad Davis; was reviewed by the SJI Research and Engineering Practice Committees; and continues the work of Dr. Theodore V. Galambos, former consulting engineer to the Steel Joist Institute.

Technical Digest No. 5 is the latest in a series of publications from SJI that provides information about the application and usage of steel joists and Joist Girders. The publication is available to download as an electronic version or a hard copy.
