Steel Joist Institute Presents Webinar on Steel Deck Design and Specifications on May 17

FLORENCE, S.C., May 1, 2017 – The Steel Joist Institute (SJI) is hosting the webinar “Diaphragm Design That Makes Sense: How to Design and Specify Steel Deck by Representatives of the SDI.” It is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (EST), followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Recent changes in design codes and construction practices have made diaphragm connection design more complicated and time consuming. This webinar identifies those changes, provides design guidance, reviews upcoming publications, and introduces new Steel Deck Institute (SDI) design tools.

Learning objectives include recognizing appropriate American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and SDI Standards and literature and understanding the limits of existing shear tables and evaluation reports. The webinar will also cover design procedures for uniquely shaped and sloped structures, as well as design procedures and shear capacities over cold-formed (CF) steel framing.

Individual and site registration is now available online at Individual registration cost is $75. Each person who registers will receive his or her own link to the webinar and earn 0.15 CEUs or 1.5 PDHs and receive a certificate of completion from SJI. Site registration is also available for $300, allowing multiple attendees from the same company to utilize one link to the webinar.

Besides setting standards for the steel joist industry, the Steel Joist Institute works closely with major building code bodies throughout the country helping to develop code regulations regarding steel joists and Joist Girders. The Institute also invests thousands of dollars in research related to steel joists and Joist Girders and offers a complete library of publications and other training, research and design aids.
